TCU Students Learn and Grow in Germany

Incoming John V. Roach Honors College students traveled to Munich, Germany, in July to immerse themselves in local culture and history before their first year at TCU. The group visited sites like the Viktualienmarkt, Neuschwanstein Castle and Allianz Arena while experiencing German traditions.

Architectural and Cultural Discoveries

"I was fascinated by the stunning architecture, twin domes and the mysterious “devil’s footprint,” which I made sure to avoid in case of bad luck. I also enjoyed visiting Nymphenburg Palace, especially the statues representing gods of the Pantheon, including Jupiter, Neptune and my favorite, Diana, the Goddess of the Hunt."— Kiefer Mitchell

Life-Changing Lessons from Dachau

One of the most powerful parts of the Munich trip for students was visiting the Dachau concentration camp. The sobering experience pushed them to reflect on the duality of human nature and the capacity for immense cruelty but also resilience.

Lessons in Confidence and Community at TCU

"I love meeting new people but I was nervous because I was going to be in a foreign country for six days with complete strangers. However, my nerves quickly went away. On our way to Munich, our flight got delayed and while we waited we all sat down in a disorganized circle and started playing Concentration. First Passport and Feeling Small

"As someone who had never been abroad before, it was very enlightening seeing a foreign culture first-hand. All the facilitators, staff and guides worked extremely hard to make it unforgettable. I'll always cherish the memory of standing at the foot of the Alps staring up in awe at Neuschwanstein Castle and feeling so small.
