A Momentous Occasion

This May, the John V. Roach Honors College held its semesterly Laureate Ceremony in the Ed Landreth Auditorium. Honors students, faculty, staff and guests gathered to celebrate the students’ notable achievements.

SPRING CLASS OF 2023 BY THE NUMBERS

217 Honors College Graduates; 198 Honors Laureates; 19 Andrews Scholars; 100+ Departmental Honors projects; 59 majors; top by majors based on number of graduates: biology, finance, psychology, marketing, political science; 34 states and 3 countries

Completing Honors Coursework

Lower-division Honors courses consist of discussion-based seminars on unique topics like “Video Games and Representation,” “Cultural Contact Zones” and “Mindfulness for College Students.” Students can also complete a study abroad experience as a part of their lower-division coursework.

Upper-division Honors are achieved by partaking in Departmental or University Honors courses — some students complete both! Departmental Honors require research or creative scholarly projects developed by students with guidance from a mentor faculty member. University Honors courses are discussion-based and continue to challenge students with cross-cultural inquiry in interdisciplinary subjects like “Nature of Giving,” “Design for Social Impact” and “Deconstructing Disney.”

Students graduating as Andrews Honors Scholars have completed upper-division coursework. Honors Laureates have completed both upper- and lower-division coursework and achieved a minimum 3.5 GPA upon graduation.

Making Their Mark

Each graduating student selected a faculty or staff mentor to bestow their Honors hoods at the ceremony. Mentors wrote a commemorative message about each individual highlighting their standout accomplishments and characteristics, which were read as the students crossed the stage. Then, students signed the Great Book and joined the roll of graduates, an enduring tradition of the Honors College.

Leading On After Graduation

Full-time employment at top companies like Dell Technologies, Lockheed Martin, Goldman Sachs, Deloitte and Texas Capital Bank, among others
Graduate education at top national and international universities like University College Dublin, University of Georgia, University of Texas at Austin, Vanderbilt University, University College London, studying topics like behavioral neuroscience, public relations, social work and more
Alternate paths like taking research gap years before attending graduate school, serving in AmeriCorps and Peace Corps, and traveling the world
Medical school at top-ranked institutions like UT Southwestern Medical School, Baylor College Medical and TCU's Anne Burnett Marion School of Medicine, among others
Law school at some of the nation’s top universities like University of Southern California, Wake Forest University School of Law, University of Texas School of Law and University of Colorado Law School, among others

Thanks for the Memories

The class of 2023 graduated amid TCU’s momentous year-long Sesquicentennial celebration. They persevered through a global pandemic and witnessed a record-breaking football season. Here are some of their favorite memories.
