Broadway Performer John Devereaux ’12 Uses the Spotlight to Inspire

John Devereaux ’12 uses his talents as a stage performer and social media star to inspire and bring joy to hundreds of thousands.

Since earning his theatre degree from TCU, Devereaux has performed in international tours of “RENT” and “Dreamgirls” and originated a role in the world premiere of “Recorded in Hollywood.” Most recently, he toured the United States in the ensemble of “Hamilton: An American Musical.”

The Houston native has also gained a captive audience of more than 130,000 followers and counting on Instagram and TikTok, where he shares snippets of his life backstage and engages with fans.

Devereaux has made the world his stage, demonstrating what it means to Lead On by using his platform and passion to entertain and positively impact others.

Art Imitates Life

Since 1873, TCU has empowered leaders to act with integrity and serve with compassion for the greater good.

To build excitement for the university’s 150th anniversary in 2023, TCU recognized alumni leaders and their impact through a series of murals.

Devereaux was the first Horned Frog to be spotlighted. His mural debuted in the heart of Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood and ran for four weeks.

Located in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood, not far from New York City's Theater District, Devereaux’s mural celebrated how he Leads On by using performance to bring joy to others.

“John is amazing, and he represents what we believe is the power of all Horned Frogs: We find our passion and pursue it. In corporations, in classrooms, in operating rooms and even on stages, you’ll find Horned Frogs leading on.”

Devereaux credits Theatre TCU with nurturing his acting, singing and dancing talents, which prompted him to switch his major from communications studies to theatre. He shares more about his journey from Fort Worth to the national spotlight in the fall 2022 issue of TCU Magazine.
