This glimpse into some of TCU’s labs illustrates the unparalleled, hands-on experiences that equip students for success in internships, clinicals, careers, graduate and post-graduate education.

Nursing

Simulation-based learning helps nursing students develop communication, decision-making and clinical skills in the Harris College of Nursing & Health Sciences Health Professions Learning Center.

Students provide care for simulation patients, working with their peers to develop workplace competencies, including safety, professionalism and prioritization. After each simulation experience, faculty debrief with students and provide feedback to improve performance.

Kinesiology

The Locomotor Performance Lab research team studies the science behind high intensity exercise.

With a custom, up-to-90 mph treadmill, in-ground force platforms and the same 3D camera technology that animation studios use, Peter Weyand, Ph.D., Emily McClelland, Ph.D., and their students analyze running, jumping and other movements, measuring the forces that move us to understand the capabilities of everyone from student-athletes to Olympians.

Biophysics

In the College of Science & Engineering, Anton Naumov, Ph.D., associate professor of biophysics, and his students use physics to contribute to medical advancements.

They apply nanotechnology to help develop treatments for cancer, hepatitis, Alzheimer’s disease and more, often collaborating with faculty and students in the Department of Biology and medical professionals across specialties.

Geology

From tiny particles to vast landscapes, College of Science & Engineering students work with Omar Harvey, Ph.D., associate professor of geological sciences, to unlock the mysteries of Earth’s energy and chemistry.

The lab team explores real issues related to climate, energy, food, air and water pollution and even partners with local schools to spark scientific curiosity in the next generation.

Anatomy

Kinesiology students explore human anatomy on an Anatomage Table, a large touchscreen programmed with life-size presentations of body systems. This groundbreaking technology is an alternative to cadavers, offering an unparalleled learning experience for undergraduates.

Engineering

The engineering wind tunnel is where innovation takes flight. This unique lab allows faculty and students to test the forces of air on objects from baseballs to speed skater racing suits to better understand aerodynamics.

Nutrition

In the Nutritional Sciences Lab, faculty and students foster a deep understanding of the relationship between diet and wellbeing. From mastering fundamental culinary techniques to delving into the intricacies of ingredient selection and food chemistry, students learn to create delicious dishes to promote optimal health.
