What’s Inside TCU’s 150th Time Capsule

Fifty years from now, Horned Frogs will open a time capsule that houses relics from the university’s past. Inside, they’ll find memorabilia, documents and books that offer a glimpse into TCU’s historic 150th celebration and life as a Horned Frog in 2023.

Take a peek inside this special time capsule — now interred for posterity in the Brown-Lupton University Union — to discover some of the items future Frogs will find.

Sports Memorabilia

In honor of the football team’s historic 2022-23 season, the time capsule includes memorabilia from the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl and the College Football Playoff National Championship game.

Football mementos include a photo of the CFP National Championship game signed by the 2022-23 team, a rally towel and a Vrbo Fiesta Bowl championship ring and T-shirt.

A bejeweled championship ring given to Frog Club members after the Horned Frogs won the 2022 Vrbo Fiesta Bowl.

The ring features the final score (51-45) of the 2022 Vrbo Fiesta Bowl game that the Horned Frogs won over the Michigan Wolverines.

Commemorating the baseball team’s sixth appearance in the Men’s College World Series, this T-shirt represents yet another momentous achievement for TCU athletics.

Various mementos from 2023 student life include photos of the incoming Class of 2027, members of the Student Government Association and nominees for Most Outstanding Senior.

The Class of 2027 forms the letters of TCU at a Frogs First event before the start of their first year.

A crystal cube showcases Worth Hills Village, home to many Greek organizations on campus. A Kappa Delta Sorority T-shirt represents the most recent sorority to join TCU’s Greek community.

Government Proclamations

TCU’s milestone year warranted local, regional and national recognition, including ceremonial proclamations from the City of Fort Worth, Tarrant County, Texas Legislature and U.S. House of Representatives.

The Tarrant County proclamation honors TCU’s relationship with its home county.

An American flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol on Feb. 27, 2023, the same day that TCU was recognized on the House of Representatives floor by congressman and TCU Trustee Roger Williams ’72.

Adopted by the Texas Legislature in spring 2023, this resolution recognizes TCU’s impact across the region and state.

150th Books

Published during TCU’s Sesquicentennial, a collection of books commemorate the university’s evolution through the years.

“Images and Stories of TCU’s First 100 Years, 1873-1973” examines the university’s evolution as it moved from location to location, uncovering stories and following the growth, changes, struggles and successes that led to the TCU Centennial.

“A Hope of Wisdom: Three Essays On Education” is a collectable, cloth-bound edition of the Centennial publication that features a new, third essay written by Chancellor Victor J. Boschini, Jr.

“Walking TCU: A Historic Perspective, Second Edition” describes the buildings on TCU’s Fort Worth campus, and before that, those on the Thorp Spring and Waco campuses.

“A History to Remember: TCU in Purple, White and Black” chronicles and contextualizes the history of Black students, faculty and staff at TCU.

Narrated by hundreds of individuals who have played important roles in TCU’s flourishing third half-century, “A Remarkable Story to Tell: TCU 1973-2023” is also a vibrant pictorial history, with hundreds of beautiful photos.

150TH SWAG

From hats, scarves and more merch to specialty wine, the time capsule includes plenty of swag created just for this momentous year.

A gift box that includes TCU 150th wine created by Saarloos + Sons winery, stemless glasses and a bottle stopper.

A TCU 150th hat that features a special logo reserved for use by the Office of the Chancellor and President and a Frogball USA hat created to celebrate the baseball team’s appearance at the Men’s College World Series in Omaha.

A knit scarf that features a secondary 150th logo.
